Lyme Conservation Commission
Meeting Minutes - October 6, 2008
- Chair Matt Stevens opened the meeting at 7:30 with the following in attendance: Matt Stevens, Dick Jones, Russ Hirschler, Blake Allison, James Graham and Adair Mulligan (members) and Lou-Anne Conroy (public).
- The minutes of September 8th were approved as submitted.
- Trails:
- Adair reported that she had received a report the new Ledge Trail was difficult to follow as it leaves Mud Turtle Pond Road through the area of skidder paths. Incorporating a compass rose on the map was suggested.
- Matt reported that he has re-anchored the revetments in the lower Grant Brook bank stabilization project and they appear to be holding and catching debris as intended.
- The 2009 budget request was discussed. The major area of discussion was the amount to request for “maintenance and management of conservation areas”. The below budget request was approved:

- An extensive discussion of the Chaffee Wildlife Refuge/Balch Field/Chase Beach situation followed. Approximately 51,000 ft2 have been identified as wetlands, and an offsetting mitigation resource will have to be identified as part of the application for a permit for the Balch Field/Chase Beach project. Dick moved and Adair seconded the following motion: The Conservation Commission has no objection to placing easements on Town owned conservation land if approved by the voters at Town Meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
- Adair reported that 15 people had participated in planting 800 daffodils at the Academy Building that came from NH The Beautiful to reward the town for its efforts on Green Up Day.
- The meeting adjourned at 8:45.
