Utility Company Financing for Energy Improvement Projects

News Bulletin from the Lyme Energy Committee:

Two NH electric utilities, PSNH and UNITIL, are administering innovative on-bill loan financing programs for a range of home energy efficiency and renewable energy investments, including high efficiency pellet boiler installations. Together these utilities serve approximately 85% of NH residential electric ratepayers. Through a program called Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, loans may be available for Energy Star appliances and pellet boiler installations that meet certain criteria for up to $7,500, at repayment terms of 0% interest and up to seven years. The monthly payment is added to the homeowner’s electric bill.

For a short time longer (perhaps a month or two), these terms may be expanded to up to $20,000 and up to 10 years to repay through enhanced financing made possible by the NH Better Buildings Program (ARRA funding). However, these enhanced loan provisions will be exhausted soon.

These attractive on bill financing terms can be combined with the PUC’s rebate and other programs.

Details of the programs, which have not be widely publicized, are available in the attachments for PSNH and UNITIL customers. There are numerous conditions. For more information, contact Gordon Tuttle at PSNH, at 603 634-2605, or Tom Palma at UNITIL at 603-294-5172.
