Re: 2018 Select Board Position
Good day Town residents. I am writing this letter to introduce myself as a candidate for the open 2018 Town Select Board position.
My wife Darla and I have been living in Lyme since 1999. I am a retired petroleum engineer (as of 2016) with 34 years of operations and business management experience. For the last 22 years of my career, I was overseas working 28 days on and 28 days off. During my off time I worked on and around our home on Tavern Lane before returning to work. As such, not many folks got to meet me, but many knew me through Darla who runs her own business on the Lyme Common.
In 2016, I volunteered to work on the Lyme Road Committee. Working on this Committee gave me a sense of the commitment and dedication that all of the Lyme board and committee members make towards the betterment of our Town. As result, I do believe that I have an understanding of what it takes to be a Select Board member in both time and commitment.
If elected my commitment to you is to work as hard I know I can, and to be open and transparent in my decision making with the Board and residents. I could be described as a fact based decision maker who likes to have ample data and focused dialogue around critical issues.
I do believe that I have begun to understand a few of Lyme’s many challenges going forward: budget constraints and the need to minimize the year over year large tax increases, finding ways to responsibly widen the tax base, road improvement and maintenance challenges and the continued health of a high performing K-8 school, while living within all of the other budget constraints.
I look forward to introducing myself further at Little Town Meeting on March 6th. Please take any opportunity to introduce yourself if we haven’t already met and ask me the hard questions that may be on your mind to help you decide if I am the right person for the job.
