Why does my tax bill have the wrong owner and/or address on it?

Why does my tax bill have the wrong owner and/or address on it?

Property deeds and addresses

When a property deed comes to the Town of Lyme from Grafton County Registrar of Deeds, it must be processed AS WRITTEN.
This means that when you purchased your property, the address on the deed is likely the address you were living at, at the time of purchase. When the deed is sent to us, the Assessing Clerk has no way of knowing if you are or when you will be living at the Lyme property.
By law, we must use the address listed on the deed in our system. It is important for new property owners to fill out a change of address form so we can update the address in our system.  See attached “CHANGE OF ADDRESS FORM”.
If you purchase your property after April 1st of the Tax year, we will need your up-to-date mailing address.  It is important to communicate with the Assessing Office about any changes.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
